Q: Hi, Eric. Do you think that a lot of men really think the way Gerard Butler’s character Mike does in the movie? – Uinterview User
A: There are definitely some men who do. There is a lot of truth in what he’s saying. And there’s a lot of truth in what [Katherine Heigl’s character] is feeling. Men who are trying to find that happy medium between both personalities [in a relationship] is a great way to go into a dating scenario. You definitely want to open up and be who you are. The message is for women to open up to a little of what’s going on with the man’s psyche and men, too, to understand what’s going on with women. There’s got to be that compromise. There are no qualms in trying to find that.
Q: Have you ever known a woman as OCD as Katherine Heigl’s character? Have you ever been on a date where a woman’s done crazy things like her? – Kevin, Washington, D.C. – Uinterview User
A: 1000%. I’ve gone on a few dates that were like that and the check came quicker with those dates. It’s a little bit overwhelming when a woman is that controlling, especially on a first date. It’s overbearing. The fact that any woman can have a checklist is pretty fantastic. But I definitely appreciate a woman who knows what she wants and can put it out there and be yourself with it. Someone who just forced, for example, their views on politics or life on you like date one, there’s a lot of other things we could talk about on date one. I’ve had an instance where it became the longest dinner. I think I ordered three extra drinks to get through it.
Q: What was your favorite scene in The Ugly Truth? – Kimberly Owens
A: I have to say the baseball park scene is a really funny scene. It just came together well and it’s a funny moment.
Q: What was your favorite scene working with Katherine Heigl? – Kimberly Owens
A: I was very lucky, we had a lot of great moments together. We just laughed a lot during this movie. The content when you’re going through the script and the way it plays out in the movie provide for so many normal life scenarios that you bring up just in conversation in between takes so her and I had a blast in every scene we were shooting. We always had fun.
What’s “The Ugly Truth” about the Battle of the Sexes? Actor Eric Winter, who costars with Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler in the rom-com premiering citywide tonight, offers a tidbit or two.
“I play Colin, the neighbor of a woman (Heigl as Abby) who is so Type A that she has compiled a checklist of what she thinks the ideal guy should be,” says Winter, 33. “And as it turns out, she thinks that guy is me. And Gerard Butler plays a colleague of Abby’s who’s going to coach her on what to do to make me want her. It’s a lot of fun.”
Personally, Winter has gone AWOL from the Battle of the Sexes, marrying longtime actress girlfriend Roselyn Sanchez (Elena Delgado on “Without a Trace”) last November in Puerto Rico. The honeymooners now live in equally exotic Studio City, where all their favorite weekends begin.
Fore! Five. Six . . .
My one personal escape is golf, which I really discovered in the last year. I was an athlete when I was younger and played a lot of sports, including golf, but I always ended up throwing around my clubs in frustration. I’ve got a better attitude about it now. It’s a great challenge. I play all the public courses, like Griffith Park and Simi Valley. I’m trying to get my wife into it.
For dinner with friends, we love the original Katsu-Ya in Studio City. It’s a traditional sushi house, very basic. For a more upscale version, we can go to the one in Brentwood, but the original has kept us pretty loyal. For one thing, their sashimi is the best in town as far as just how fresh the fish is and how it melts in your mouth. But they also have these great concoctions that they’ve developed, like the almond scallops and their specialty rolls.
It’s wafer thin
A really good Italian spot in the Valley is Mezzomondo. They have the best spinach ravioli I’ve ever had, bar none. Such a thin, thin ravioli, and handmade. Honestly, it’s the best. And the place itself is just so warm and homey, a simple trattoria.
We’re both big exercise buffs, and we love being active outdoors, which is why we like hiking in Fryman Canyon. It’s crowded, but there are a couple of offshoot trails where you kind of get away a little bit. We have four dogs that we bring sometimes, but that can get a little chaotic.
Musicals and more
When a good play comes to town, particularly to the Pantages, I never miss it. I saw “The Producers,” “Wicked,” and I saw “Chicago” here, we really love the theater.
We also go up to the Getty when we get a chance. We love the ArcLight for a movie. This is a great town if you just get out and find out what’s going on.
Sure everyone might be buzzing about Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl when they talk about last week’s rom-com box office blockbuster, “The Ugly Truth,” but today we wanted to honor the guy that kept our eyes glued to the screen, Eric Winter, as this week’s Hump Day Hottie.
Eric and his pretty-boy looks certainly give Gerard a run for his money in the movie, so if you didn’t get enough of the former yet, we can’t blame you. Press play on our video below for evidence of his babeness and learn more about Eric after the jump.
Vital Stats: This 33-year-old California native has been in many movies and TV shows, so we’re pretty sure you must recognize him from one of his many roles over the years. And, he may have left you drooling, but we have some bad news — he’s taken. This, of course, is good news for his wife, “Without a Trace” star Roselyn Sanchez.
Where you might have already seen him: Eric has been in just about every popular TV show over the last few years including “Brother and Sisters,” “Pepper Dennis,” “Wildfire,” and he even got his funny on in “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.”
And if you were a fan of his work in “Brothers & Sisters,” so is his “Ugly Truth” co-star, Ms. Heigl herself. Of his first meeting with the “Grey’s Anatomy” star, Eric told Entertainment Tonight, “She was just like, ‘Oh my God, I’m a fan of you on the show ‘Brothers & Sisters.’ It just broke down the ice really easy. She’s been so successful with everything she’s done,” he said. “With the movie career, with ‘Grey’s’. It was a refreshing to see that. It was a very comfortable set for me.”
Why you should take notice of him now: Well, thanks to his all-around perfectness and stoicism in the now infamous vibrating panties scene in “The Ugly Truth,” we’re pretty sure that Eric is one gentleman who is destined to get only more roles. Plus, if he proved anything in the film, he looks quite good in barely anything. “I was cool with it,” he told E! about his towel scene. “In the name of good comedy and getting a good rise out of people, it was well worth doing.”
Speaking of things that are well worth doing, you should take a hot minute to click on our ongoing flipbook of Hump Day Hottie goodness below!
Eric Winter in The Ugly Truth
From Gwen Morett, About.com GuideJuly 9, 2009
If you’re missing Eric Winter (ex-Rex Brady) on DAYS, you can catch the gorgeous star in the new upcoming movie entitled The Ugly Truth, which premieres in theaters on Friday, July 24. The highly anticipated comedy stars Katherine Heigl as Abby Richter, a morning show producer whose search for Mr. Perfect has left her hopelessly single. Gerard Butler portrays Mike Chadway, a hardcore TV personality who promises to spill the ugly truth on what makes men and women tick. Eric portrays a smart and successful orthopedic surgeon named Colin, whom the lead character, Abby, is trying to score a date with.
Although the writers conveniently forgot to mention Rex Brady’s name during Kate’s cancer storyline and at Grandpa Shawn’s funeral, many fans haven’t forgotten the character of Rex, or his previous portrayer Eric Winter. As fans may recall, Eric portrayed Rex Brady on DAYS from 2002 until 2005. His character was intially known as one of the Gemini Twins upon his arrival in Salem, became romantically involved with Mimi, and left town in July of 2005 after Rex discovered that Mimi had an abortion and kept this torrid secret from him.
Congratulations to Eric on all his success since leaving DAYS
